VISUAL ARTISTS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF FINE ARTS THESSALONIKI The cell
In ancient Greek κύτταρον {kytaron} and κύτταρος {kytaros} (hive cell) < {kytos}. The cell is characterized as the basic and primordial unit of life. Structured with intelligence, it functions as the nucleus of every living organism (being;). It is the smallest unit that can feed, reproduce and breathe, that means, having the main characteristics of life by itself. As units, cells have the ability to provide energy and maintain their internal structure by living their own “autonomous life”. On the other hand, each cell has the ability to communicate with its environment (context), to remember, to cooperate and to coexist. Therefore, the coexistence of cells is the single and integral whole of every living organism (being;). We may very well parallelize the structure and function of the cell "society” with the main issue of any human social system. What would be the factor that made humanity to function as a perfect organism, fed by harmony, communication and cooperation between individuals? It seems simple but it is not.
