Νicos Baikas, honored artists of the 4th Art Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair, 21 - 24 November
Nicos Baikas was born in Piraeus in 1948 and lives in Athens.
He has presented solo exhibitions in Europe and America and has participated in many international group exhibitions as well as in Documenta IX of 1992. Part of his works belong to museum collections such as MAXXI (Roma), SMAK (Gand), Neue Galerie (Kassel) and other important collections.
The painting of Nicos Baikas has created over the years a rare body of images but at the same time a complex system of thought on the image itself. The material for Nicos Baikas painting is the pencil and is considered integral with his name. Exhaustive coverage of paper surface by pencil in recent years is increasingly driven by a stricter syntax and geometry. The works of Nicos Baikas have been described as visual essays. All his work is a research on knowledge. Baikas investigates the latent structures of reality and creates theorems above them.
